UW-Whitewater got on top 1-0 the first inning on an RBI single by UWW leftfielder Matt Beyer. They would not look back in Friday afternoon's 10-4 victory over UW-La Crosse in game-one of a twinbill on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
Eagle Cole Cefalu tied the game with one out in the 3rd by ripping his fourth home run of the season just to the center field side of the scoreboard in right field. Brooks Braga followed on the next pitch with a double off the left field wall.
Tincher settled down a recorded a strike out and ground out to short to end the inning.
Drew Eichstaedt led off the Warhawk third with a ground rule double to left center.Jeff Donovan followed with a one out RBI single to right scoring Eichstaedt. Brent “the Aussie” Young ripped a line drive just inside the left field line to score Donovan from second to increase the UWW lead to 3-1. Travis Wesslels beat out an infield single to put runners at first and third with two out. UWL pitcher Matt Running threw wildly on a pick-off attempt at first allowing Young to scamper to third and Wessels to second. Dylan Friend promptly singled to center to put the Hawks ahead 5-1 through 3 innings.
Adam Cordova led off the UWL fourth by blasting a home. Run – the second of the day off Tincher to cut the Whitewater lead to 5-2.
Following a force-out, Jeff Donovan lines a RBI double into the right field corner to drive in his second run of the game. Jared Fon followed with an RBI single to score Donovan. Fon steals second and was knocked in on a run-scoring single by Brent Young to give the Hawks an 8-2 advantage threw four innings.
Donovan hit a solo home run in the 8th inning (see photo above) followed by UWL starting pitcher walking in the Hawks 10th run over the game.
La Crosse scored two runs in the ninth.

Drew Eichstaedt and Jeff Donovan lead the way offensively for the Warhawks by going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI each. Brent Young went 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in.
Riley Tincher goes the distance on the mound giving up 4 runs while scattering 11 hits. The lefthander struck out 6 and did not walk a batter.
The win improves the Hawks record to 27 & 8 overall and 16 & 5 in the WIAC.
With the victory the Warhawks clinch a berth in next weekend’s WIAC Postseason Tournament at a location yet to be determined.
