Tincher getting that "bulldog" approach back

A quick glance at the box score of Sunday’s 19-2, game-one victory over UW-Oshkosh shows Riley Tincher as the winning pitcher. It might sound like a formality in the blowout win but the 2010 WIAC Pitcher of the Year entered the game having struggled on the mound over the second half of April.

The Warhawks seemed to be on course for a 10th WIAC title in the last 12 years but two losses to the Titans on Saturday had dropped UWW into second place in the conference standings.

With the wind blowing out to left field in excess of 30 mph the senior lefthander knew he had to be “on top of his pitches” all afternoon.

He did with that “bulldog” attitude that has made him an outstanding pitcher in the WIAC.

“I threw my fast ball with conviction for once,” Tincher tells Voiceseyeonbaseball.blogspot.com. “I had that confidence and that will to win again. It felt nice to say to myself over and over again, you’re not going to beat me today – it was nice.”

Tincher gave up just seven hits and allowed just one earned run in upping his season record to 7 & 2..

“He allowed just one earned run in weather conditions like we had today, that was pretty impressive,” UWW head coach John Vodenlich indicated following the game. “He kept his pitches down and kept the ball in the ball park. I thought it was an outstanding pitching performance.”

The Hawks will host nationally ranked St. Scholastica for two games Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium
