Hawks sting the baseball during the "south" portion of the 2011 schedule

The UW-Whitewater baseball team is scheduled to open the “north” portion of the season by hosting Concordia-Moorhead (Minn) Friday on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium in a game beginning at 2:00 pm (weather permitting).

The Hawks bring a 5 & 2 record back following its “spring training” games in Florida and St. Louis.

Whitewater has stung the ball offensively with a .306 team batting average. The top half of the batting order has been lethal for opposing pitchers.

Daniel Putnam enters the home portion of the 2011 schedule hitting a scintillating .533 and scoring a team-high 12 runs from his lead-off spot in the UWW batting order.

Rob Coe is close behind, hitting .478 through seven games. The All-WIAC catcher has a slugging percentage of .783 including a home run and 14 RBI.

Jeff Donovan is also off to a good start at the plate hitting an even .400 including a double, triple and 7 RBI.

Two other starters, Andrew Eichstaedt (LF) and Matt Meisenheimer (2B) are also hitting above .300.

Putnam, Coe, Donovan, Eichstaedt, Travis Wessels and Matt Beyer have been in the starting lineup in all seven games to date.

Due to the cancelled early season games at the Metrodome earlier this month the Hawks played just seven games prior to opening the “north” portion of the schedule. Last year the Warhawks left Florida with an 8 and 1 mark.
