Warhawk pitchers were spotty during the "south" portion of the schedule

What’s the old adage? “Hitting is usually ahead of pitching early in the season?” Such has been the case when breaking down the UW-Whitewater pitching statistics after seven games.

The Hawks left Florida thjis week with a 4.34 ERA and seven pitchers sporting a sub 3.00 ERA.
Colin Grove (Freshman/Beloit Memorial) is coming off an outstanding spring training with a 0.00 ERA (7 innings/4 appearances) Grove has given up just 3 hits while striking out 6 so far.
Brock Liston, Andrew Bauer and Tom Kerndt also have not allowed a run all pitching less than an inning. The threesome allowed just one hit and one walk through the team’s first seven games.

Kyle Lee will again be looked at for long relief situations. The junior from Beaver Dam pitched outstanding earlier this week. In the Warhawks 7-6 win over St. Thomas (Minn) Lee came on in relief of starter Jack Larson with two outs in the first inning. . Lee went eight innings to earn his first victory of the year in his first appearance. He faced 33 batters, gave up seven hits, two runs, walked three and struck out three.

Staff "ace," Riley Tincher will enter the home opener 1 & 1 record and 2.45 ERA. In 11.0 innings pitched the senior lefthander from Oregon, Wisconsin has given up 15 hits, 3 earned runs while striking out 5 and walking 2 opposing batters.

Jeff Donovan has started two games on the mound so far. Jeff has pitched a team-high 11.2 innings giving up 7 runs on 10 hits. His ERA is 5.40. Donovan has recorded a team-high 10 strike outs while giving up just four walks.

As a staff, UWW pitvhers have struck out 42 while allowing 33 bases on balls.

Tincher and Donovan have started two games each. Jack Larsen (Junior/Menomonee Falls), Justin Lambert (Sophomore/Mount Horeb) and Mathew Roberts (Freshman/Manitowoc Roncalli) have the other three starts for John Vodenlich’s Warhawk pitching staff.
