UW-Whitewater to host Ripon College in 2011 home opener at the Mills

The UW-Whitewater Warhawks will open the “north portion” of its schedule Thursday afternoon (3/31) by hosting Ripon College in doubleheader action on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

It won’t be Florida weather but according to weatherbug.com, expect sunshine with a top temp near 50 degrees.

Weather and poor field condition resulted in the Red Hawks scheduled doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point to be postponed.

The Red Hawks will also be playing its first game in Wisconsin this season and will take a 2 & 8 record into Thursday’s twin bill in Whitewater.

The Ripon baseball team ended their spring training trip to Florida on a positive note, winning two of their final three games at the RussMatt Invitational. The Red Hawks swept a doubleheader against Greenville (Ill.) College, winning 13-2 and 7-3, before losing the final game of their trip 5-3 to Hope (Mich.) College last Friday.

After a two-year absence, the Ripon College baseball team returned to the NCAA Regional playoffs in 2010, adding the school's 18th conference championship to their hardware.

Last season's championship run was a bit unexpected, as Ripon had a young team with five freshman starters.

Last year in UW-Whitewater’s first game following spring training, the Warhawks swept a doubleheader, 11-1 and 3-1 over Ripon in the first games played at the new James B. Miller Stadium in Whitewater.
