NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Day-2 play underway


Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Midwest Baseball Regional is underway at overcast James B. Miller Stadium in Whitewater.

St. Thomas (Minn) scored three runs in the top of the 1st inning and currently leads Aurora (Ill) 5-1 in the 6th inning in the tournaments first “elimination” game.

Coming up at 1 p.m. No. 1 seed UW-Stevens Point (33-8) will challenge St. Scholastica (35-6) in day-two action.

The Warhawks (33-1) will play in today’s final game at 4 p.m. vs. Hamline University (29-13) of St. Paul, Minnesota.

UW-Whitewater edged by St. Thomas Wednesday afternoon 3-2 to advance to today’s winner’s bracket contest. Hamline scored a run in the 13th inning for a 3-2 extra-inning win over St. Scholastica (Minn).

UW-Whitewater and Hamline have played several common opponents this season.

• On March 26th the Pipers split a doubleheader vs. UW-Superior winning 17-0 in the opener, dropping game two 8-7.

• On May 3rd Hamline swept a doubleheader in St. Paul vs. UW-Stout – 11-8 in game-one and 1-0 in game-two.

• MIAC rivals Hamline and St. Thomas have played five games so far in 2011. The Pipers are 4 & 1 vs. the Tommies.

UW-Whitewater has played St. Thomas three times this year including two games during spring training in Florida.
