Hawks bounce back in 14-0 shutout over UW-Platteville


The Warhawk baseball team got just what the doctor ordered in it's loser's bracket game against UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at James B. Miller Stadium. The Hawks rocked Platteville pitching for 14 runs and 17 hits while getting a pitching gem from Aaron Leitner in Whitewater's 14-0 shutout over the Pioneers.

The Hawks got on the board first on Danny Putnam's RBI single to knock in Jordan Stine in the 3rd inning.

The Hawks added two more in the fourth, highlighted by Rob Coe's 4th home run of the season.

Ben Kuhlmann blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to highlight a four-run fifth to extend the UWW lead to 7-0.

The Hawks sealed the deal with a seven run seventh to give the Hawks a 14-0, seventh inning, ten-run rule victory.

Aaron Leitner piched a gem for the Hawks giving up just two hits to up his record to 7 & 1 on the season.

Justin Crotty went 4-and-a-third innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits. Crotty's record falls to 3 & 6. Platteville, amig just it's second appearance in the WIAC Conference Tournament, ends its season with a 22 & 20 record.

The Warhawks will take a 36 & 5 mark into tomorrow afternoon's championship round. The Hawks will need to beat UW-Stevens Point twice to capture the WIAC postseason crown and the conference's automatic berth in the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
