UW-Whitewatater's Riley Tincher was named the Pitcher of the Year to lead the 19 individuals selected to the 2010 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Baseball Team by the league coaches. UW-Stevens Point’s Eric Fritz was chosen the Position Player of the Year. In addition, UW-Whitewater’s John Vodenlich was tabbed the Coach of the Year in balloting released Tuesday morning.
Tincher is the sixth player in Warhawk listings to capture the conference award. The junior lefthander from Oregon tops the conference with 83.2 innings pitched, 11 wins and 20 appearances, while ranking third with 67 strikeouts and seventh with a .271 opponent batting average.
He struck out at least five batters in five of his 12 starting assignments, including a season-high 11 against UW-Superior on May 3. Tincher allowed two or fewer earned runs in 15 of his 20 appearances and four or fewer hits in four games.
Jeff Donovan was selected All-WIAC both as a pitcher and as a 1st baseman. Jeff, who misssed last season, was a first team pick in 2007 and 2008.
Other Warhawks named !st Team All-WIAC are Jordan Stine, Rob Coe and Jason Hooper.
Stine, who missed 2009 due to injury, was recognized in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Coe and Hooper were All-WIAC selections last year.
Seniors Mike Kenseth and Ben Kuhlmann along with sophomore pitcher Aaron Leitner earn honorable mentionAll-WIAC recognition.
Meanwhile, Vodenlich secured the coaching award for the third consecutive season, becoming the first individual in WIAC history to accomplish the feat. He also captured the prize in 2004. Vodenlich directed the Warhawks to their third straight regular-season conference championship and the WIAC tournament title. He is in his seventh season in charge of the squad and owns a 249-80-1 record.
