Hawks sweep Superior 17-7 and 10-4


The UW-Whitewater baseball team wrapped up its 2010 WIAC regular season by sweeping UW-Superior Monday afternoon in Superior. UW-W defeated the Yellowjackets 17-7 (in seven innings) and 10-4 in the nightcap.

The Hawks showed no sign of a letdown just 24 hours after clinching its third consecutive WIAC and seventh in the last eight years.

Whitewater came out of the gate with seven runs in the first inning and seven more in the fourth on the way to its seven inning, run differential victory.

Jason Hooper scattered seven hits in five and two-thirds innings to push his record to 5 & 2. Kyle Lee pitched one inning in relief while Brock Liston recorded the final out of the game.

Four Hawks recorded multiple hits in the game led by Ben Kuhlmann’s 3 for 5 effort.

19 Warhawks played in the game.

Game two saw the Warhawks trail for the only time in the four-game weekend series trailing 1-0 after two innings.

The Hawks scored two in the fourth to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Riley Tincher pitched seven and a third, giving up one run while scattering four hits. Tincher struck out eleven while improving his record to 11 & 0 on the season. Tom Kerndt came on in relief to record the final five outs of the game.

Rob Coe led the Hawk offense in game-two going 3 for 5, Jordan Stine 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, and Jeff Donovan with 3 RBI including his team-high 11th home run of the season.

UW-Whitewater is now 33-4 overall and 21-3 in the WIAC, while the UW-Superior falls to 16-18 overall and 8-12 in the WIAC.
