Hawks win 6-2 to advance in NCAA Division III Regional Play


The UW-Whitewater baseball team is 2 & 0 in this week's NCAA Division III Midwest Regional baseball action following Thursday afternoon's 6-2 victory over St. Scholastica (Minn).

The Warhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by Rob Coe's two-run homer. Matt Beyer's second inning home run extended the Hawk lead to 4-0.

The Saints cut the lead in half whern Brandon Peterson singled in a pair of runs.

Whitewater added two insurance runs in the ninth inning on a home run by Jordan Stine and RBI single by Jeff Donovan.

Stine led the Hawk hitting attack by going four of five scoring two runs including the solo home run. Rob Coe finished a triple shy of the cycle including a double and two-run homer.

The Warhawk bullpen picked up where Hooper left off. Kyle Lee gave up a walk in the St. Scholastica eighth. Ben Versnik pitched a one-two-three ninth inning to send the Hawks to Thursday morning's battle of the tournament's final two unbeated teams in the double-elimination tournament.

The Warhawks will play the winner of Thursday's final game between UW-Stevens Point and defending National Champion St. Thomas (Minn.).
