Pairings set for 2010 WIAC Postseason Baseball Tournament


UW-Platteville will join UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point this weekend in the 2010 WIAC Postseason Baseball Tournament.

The three teams are the only teams with a winning overall season record. The Pioneers enter the postseason with a 22 & 18 season record and 11 & 13 in the WIAC. Stevens Point 27 & 13 overall and 15 & 8 in the conference. WIAC regular season champion Whitewater finished the regular season 35 & 4, 21 & 3 in the WIAC.

The Warhawks split both of its doubleheaders against the Pointers. On April 24th at Whitewater the Hawks won game-one 7-5 while losing the nightcap 12-1. On April 26th the Warhawks were an 8-1 winner in game-one. The Pointers came back to hand the Hawks a 15-9 defeat.

The Warhawks took three of four at Platteville in early April at Platteville. The Hawks won the first three games 15-2, 7-6 and 12-2 before losing 8-4 in the final game of the four-game series.

Stevens Point won three of its four games vs. the Pioneers in Stevens Point. The Pointers won the first three games 14-5, 11-10 and 11-8. The Pioneers salvaged the final game of the four-game weekend series 11-6.

The three-team postseason playoffs will open with Stevens Point playing Platteville at 10 a.m. Friday at James B. Miller Stadium. Whitewater will play the winner at 1 p.m. in the double elimination tournament.

The postseason tournament champion recieves the WIAC's automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
