Warhawks will open NCAA versus Aurora University (Ill)

The UW-Stevens Point baseball team has received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament and will join host UW-Whitewater (38-5) in the field at this week's Midwest Regional at Prucha Field in James B. Miller Stadium.

The top-seeded Warhawks, who swept Stevens Point on Saturday to snap the Pointers' five-year stranglehold on the WIAC tournament title, open regional play Wednesday at 10 a.m.

They'll face sixth-seeded Aurora (Ill.) University (27-14), which downed Edgewood College to win the Northern Athletics Conference tournament.

Second-seeded University of St. Thomas (33-7), a Minnesota school, will face fifth-seeded Carthage College (28-16) at 1 p.m., with fourth-seeded Stevens Point (29-15) to meet third-seeded St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 4 p.m.

The Saints (38-6) are making their sixth straight trip to the tournament after winning their 14th straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title.

The double-elimination regional concludes Saturday, with the winner advancing to the double-elimination NCAA Division III championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute from May 28 to June 1.
