Warthawks roll to 6-1 1st round win over Aurora \Ill)


The UW-Whitewater baseball team is off and running in NCAA Division III Midwest Regional action on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium. The Hawks ride the starting pitching from Riley Tincher and hitting at the top of the order for a 6-1 victory over Aurora University (Ill).

Tincher scattered six hits over seven innings to run his seaason-record to 12 & 2. Eric Schnitz went the final two innings giving up just one hit.

Jordan Stine and Danny Putnam, the top two in the UWW batting order went 6 for 9 at the plate with Stine scoring three of Whitewater's six runs. Nick Rechlitz, in the No. 9 spot in the batting order went 2 for 4, scoring a run and knocking another run in. Jeff Donovan also has two RBI for the Warhawks.

Stine and Putnam also featured "highlight" reel catches in the outfield for the Hawks.

Steve Salazar (9-2) went the distance on the mound for Aurora gtiving up 6 runs, 5 earned, and 12 hits.

Aurora will take on the loser of Wednesday's St. Thomas vs. Carthage game at 10 a.m.Thursday in the double elimination tournament.

Next up for then Warhawks will be the loser of Wednesday's 4 p.m. game between St. Scholastica and UW-Stevens Point. Gametime will be 1 p.m. Thursday.
