Hawks held to 3 hits in 8-1 loss in game-one on Sunday

Just 24 hours after sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point, the Warhawks dropped both games of Sunday’s twin bill at University Field in Point.

In game-one, Point pitching limited UWW to just one run and three hits on the way to an 8-1 victory.

Both sides were held scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Pointers put two runs on the board.

Whitewater cut the lead in half in the sixth inning as Dylan Friend drove in Jeff Donovan, who doubled to lead off the inning.

That was as close as the Warhawks would get as UWSP scored three in the sixth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the 8-1 win.

Ryan Iverson shut the door on the Hawks in the final three innings to give the Pointers the win. Iverson was credited with his sixth save of the season, allowing no hits while striking out two.

UWW starting pitcher Justin Lambert opened the game by pitching four shutout innings prior to giving up five runs in his final two innings on the mound.

Lambert (2-1) allowed five runs and 12 hits, did not walk or strike out a batter is suffering his first loss of the season.

Justin Mortensen pitched 1.2 innings in relief giving up three runs and three hits. Mathew Roberts came in to strike out the final batter of the game.

The storyline of the game was the Warhawks being held to just three hits (Donovan, Beyer and Wessels).

Three Warhawk errors led to three unearned runs for the Pointers.
