Tincher dominant in 3-0 win over UW-Superior

The UW-Whitewater baseball team was in “good hands” with Riley Tincher on the mound in game-one of Sunday’s doubleheader vs. UW-Superior on Prucha Field at James B Miller Stadium in Whitewater.

The senior lefthander faced just 31 batters, struck out 11, did not issue a walk and gave up just five hits in the complete game shutout.

Tincher, who had struggled with his control at times in previous starts this year, got back to the basics in Sunday’s start.

“I really focused throwing one pitch at a time,” the 2010 WIAC Pitcher of the Year indicated after the game. ”I made a point of worrying about the pitch I was throwing, instead of the pitch I just threw or a pitch coming up.”

Offensively, Whitewater followed a familiar formula.

The Warhawks took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Donovan. U-Dub-Dub added two more in the bottom of the seventh; one on an RBI single by Dave Cladis and the other on an RBI single by Daniel Putnam.

Matt Beyer paced the UWW nine hit attack by going 2 for 2 along with a couple sacrifices. Andrew Eichstaedt was the only other Hawk hitter to record multiple hits. The transfer from UW-Oshkosh went 2 for 4 in the game.

Putnam, Donovan and Cladis each had an RBI.

Tincher is now 4 & 0 on the season following the complete game win.

The Warhawks now 11 & 2 extend its early-season win streak to nine straight.
