Wahawks drop opener 14-8 at UW-Stout

UW-Stout pounded out five home runs that accounted for nine runs, while handing UW-Whitewater a 14-8 loss in game-one of Sunday's twinbill at Nelson Field in Menomonie.

GAME ONE:

The game-time temperature was 42 degrees with a wind chill of 29 as the weekend four game series got underway after being postponed Saturday due to rain and snow in west-central Wisconsin. The wind was blowing out at Nelson Field and UW-Stout took advantage by cranking out five home runs accounting for nine runs in the Blue Devils 14-8 win in game-one of Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Warhawks scored three runs in the top of seventh to tie the game 7-7 and feeling good about the comeback effort.

The feeling didn’t last long as Stout exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 14-7 lead.

The Hawks score one in the ninth but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils pick up the victory in game-one of the four-game series.

The top four hitters in the UWW batting order ((Putnam, Eichstaedt, Coe and Donovan) accounted for all 11 hits and all eight RBI's in the opener

The Blue Devils turned a double play in three straight innings to help elude some of Whitewater's offensive firepower.

Riley Tincher (5 & 2) took the loss for UW-Whitewater. The lefty surrendered nine runs (all earned) while striking out five and walking one.

Eric Schmitz was roughed up for four runs in just a third of an inning in relief of Tincher.

UWW’s Mathew Roberts pitched the final inning-and-two-thirds giving up a run and two hits.

GAME ONE LINE SCORE
