Warhawks Host UW-Platteville on Wednesday at the Mills

The UW-Whitewater baseball team will take a one-game lead in the WIAC standings into Wednesday’s doubleheader vs. UW-Platteville on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

The Warhawks split four games at UW-Stevens Point over the weekend. The Hawks won both games of Saturday’s twinbill, 5-3, 6-2. The Pointers came back to beat UWW twice on Sunday.

UW-Platteville split doubleheaders over the weekend with UW-Stout in Menomonie. Stout won Saturday’s opener 8-2, with Platteville winning game-two 10-6. The story was the same on Sunday as the Blue Devils took game-one 10-8 with the Pioneers coming back to take the nightcap 12-5.

Coming off a 3rd place finish in the 2010 WIAC postseason tournament, UW-Platteville has struggled at the plate and on the mound during the early season.

The Pioneers are hitting a league-low 2.45 as a team with Trevor Kattre leading the way at .348 and Aaron Hopson at .338.

The Pioneers will take a 7.56 team ERA into Wednesday’s twinbill at Whitewater.

For those thinking that the Warhawks will have an easy time with Platteville this week all you have to do is look back at the Pioneers WIAC opener vs. UW-Oshkosh.

The Titans rolled into its WIAC schedule boasting a 9 & 1 nonconference record and had Jeremy Ruebens, one of the top pitchers on the mound in game-one of the series.

The Pioneer’s Bill Oppriecht outdueled Ruebens with the Pioneers scoring three runs in the ninth inning for an eye-opening 3-2 win.

Whitewater, 6 and 2 in the WIAC, enters Wednesday action a game ahead of Oshkosh and La Crosse.

The Hawks have two games with Platteville on Wednesday and then hit the road for a four-game series vs. UW-Stout in Menomonie coming up Saturday and Sunday.

I have plenty of blogging planned all week long and I’ll be ”talking” with you from the Mills tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.

Game 1 is set for its 1st pitch at 1 p.m.

The weather looks great with partly cloudy skies and a top temperature of 65 forecast.

GO HAWKS!!
