Don’t you love late March and early April weather in Wisconsin!?
UW-Whitewater swept a doubleheader last week vs. Ripon in temperatures in the lower 50’s. The Hawks opened the WIAC portion of the schedule vs. UW-Superior last Saturday with plenty of sunshine and a temperature hovering around the 50 degree mark – not bad.
It was anything but comfortable during Sunday’s doubleheader at the Mills with a temperature in the lower 40s and southeasterly winds gusting to 35 mph.
While the Hawks had a number of players over the weekend that could have been considered for the Hawks’ MVP award, my vote goes to the UWW fans (see adjacent photo) that rose to the occasion and made a day at James B. Miller Stadium and braved the wintery conditions to holler for the Hawks.
The early weather forecast for this weekend’s four game series at UW-Stevens Point is calling for 56 on Saturday and 52 on Sunday.
UW-Stevens Point has yet to play a home game this season due to wintery weather and poor field conditions. Doubleheaders last week at UWSP’s University Field vs. Ripon and St. Norbert were scrubbed due to a snow cover still on the field.
The Pointers (8-3) are making up the doubleheader this afternoon vs. Ripon but the games are going to be played at Ripon instead.
It is hoped that five days in the 50s this week will allow UWSP's University Field to be playable when UW-Whitewater travels to Stevens Point for this weekend’s key, early season four-game series with the Pointers.
