Hawks take a 6 game winning streak into Sunday DH vs. Superior

The Warhawk baseball team will take a 9 & 2 mark into this afternoon’s doubleheader vs. UW-Superior at James B. Miller Stadium. Game one is set for a 12-Noon first pitch.

According to www.weather.com, there appears to be a “window” this afternoon prior to significant rain and thunderstorms this evening.

www.weather.com’s hourly breakdown this afternoon calls for only a 10% chance of rain from 12-noon to 5 p.m. After 5 p.m. the chance for precipitation jumps to 40%

The one definite weather impact on this afternoon’s game will be the wind which will be blowing out all afternoon long. www.weather.com is calling for southeasterly winds of 20 to 30 mph.

Since opening the “north portion” of its schedule last week, the Hawks have outscored its opponents 56-13 and hold a team batting average .330 led by leadoff hitter Danny Putnam. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of UW-Superior the junior from Ashland continued his torrid pace at the plate going 7-10 on the day. He goes into today’s twinbill with an 11 game hit streak - 8 of them multi-hit games - and is batting .604 on the season.

Travis Wessels also was a “key cog” in the Hawks hitting attack Saturday by going 5 for with 4 RBI and along with 3 runs scored.

Riley Tincher and Jeff Donovan are tentatively set as the UWW starting pitchers this afternoon.
