The UW-Whitewater baseball team rode the pitching of Riley Tincher and a 16 hit attack to role to a 12-2 ten-run rule, seven inning win over UW-Platteville in the opener of Wednesday’s twinbill on Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.
Tincher (6-2), coming off two consecutive sub-par performances, got back in his winning rhythm by pitching five solid innings giving up just two hits. Platteville scored two unearned runs off the senior lefthander in the first inning.
Trailing 2-0 to start the game, Rob Coe cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first with an RBI single.
The Hawks got the "carousel" going in the second by putting a four-spot on the board to make it 5-2 after two innings. Coe again was in the center of the action.
Th Warhawks strung five hits together in a four-run, second inning. Drew Eichstaedt, Rob Coe and Jeff Donovan hit successive run-scoring singles.
UWW centerfielder Dylan Friend’s bases loaded double with two outs in the fourth extended the Whitewater's advantage to 8-3.
UWW added one in the fifth, one in the sixth, followed by an RBI ground-rule double by Logan Peot followed by Nathan Boltz's game-winning RBI single to end the game.
Rob Coe paced the UWW offense with a 4 for 5 game-one with 2 RBI. Dylan Friend was one of four Warhawks with two hits in the game. The freshman from Burlington drove in three runs in the game.
Jeff Donovan was 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI. Drew Eichstaedt each added a pair of RBI in the Warhawk victory.
Justin Lambert came on in relief of Ticher to start the sixth inning and finished by pitching two hitless innings with 1 strikeout and 1 walk to pick up his first save of the season.
Game two is just underway with Jeff Donovan on the hill for the Hawks
