Hawks use long ball to beat UWL 13-10 in Saturday's game-one

The wind was blowing out to left field at more than 20 mph and when that happens all bets are off. Whitewater entered the day in first place in the WIAC. UW-La Crosse started Saturday in sixth place in the WIAC. Two blow outs for the Warhawks right? Anything but as UWW outscores UWL 13-10 in game-one. The Hawks take game-two 5-4 in 10 innings.

Jeff Donovan led the way in Saturday's opener going 3 for 6 at the plate including a two-run home run in the first and an RBI single in the second. The Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning.

UW-La Crosse rallied for three in the third to pull within 5-3. Ryan Leavitt, batting leadoff for the Hawks, went "downtown" cranking a two-run shot to extend the lead to 7-3.

The Wsrhawks score six in the the eighth inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Ben Kuhlman. (In the adjacent photo Ben Kulmann (left) is greeted at home plate by Jordan Stine following his eighth inning two-run homer)

The Eagles did get two back in the bottom of the ninth but Kyle Lee retired three straight to end the game. Lee earned the victory as he came on in relief of starter Aaron Leitner in the seventh. Lee gave up four hits and four runs while striking out four. He is now 5-0 this season.
