Tincher flirts with no-hitter in 15-2 game-one win at Platteville

In the opener Friday afternoon, UW-Whitewater’s Riley Tincher made a serious bid for the first no-hitter by a Warhawk pitcher since Todd Genke accomplished the feat on April 7, 1993 vs. Carroll College. The senior lefthander threw 5.2 innings of no-hit ball before Levi Ney singled to center with two outs in the sixth inning. By that time UWW was already ahead 14-0, and the Warhawks cruised to the 15-2, seven-inning win.

Platteville manufactured two hits in the bottom of the sixth after breaking up the no-hitter. They also got on the scoreboard with one run to erase the shutout.
Tincher earned the victory and improved to conference-best 6-0 record after pitching five and two-thirds while giving up two hits and one run while striking out five. Eric Schmitz pitched the final inning-and-a-third for UWW.

Many thought Friday afternoon’s UW-Whitewater at UW-Platteville doubleheader was going to be a monster scoring fest. Entering the game UW-Platteville was first in the nation in runs scored per game at 14.0 - UW-Whitewater is second at 12.7.

After three innings Whitewater led just 1-0 in an apparent pitcher’s duel.
The Hawks quickly dispatched any thoughts of continuing the pitcher’s duel by scoring three in the fourth, six in the fifth, and four in the sixth. During that stretch UW-W went 12-for-20 at the plate including a 2-for-3 performance by Ben Kuhlmann that included 2 RBIs, and a 3-for-3 showing by Rob Coe highlighted with 3 RBI. After five and a half the ‘Hawks found themselves with a 14-0 lead. (The adjacent photo was a familiar setting in the middle innings of game one of Friday's doubleheader at Platteville)

Whitewater improves its record to 13-1 heading into game-two of Friday’s twin bill.
