No surprize: Hooper named WIAC Pitcher of the Week
Jason Hooper, Senior (Lake Mills), Righthanded Pitcher of UW-Whitewater
Hooper pitched a no-hitter in a 5-0 victory over UW-Stout on April 11. For his effort, Hooper has been named the WIAC's Pitcher of the Week.
Hooper struck out eight batters and walked three enroute to the first no-hitter in program history since Adam Dominick and Steve Hedgepath combined to no-hit UW-Superior on April 20, 2008. Hooper’s effort was the first solo no-hitter since Todd Genke did it on April 7, 1993, against Carroll University (Wis.). He walked the second batter of the game and retired the next 13 before his next free pass. Hooper then sent the next nine batters back to the dugout before his final walk in the eighth inning. He retired the next three, including the final batter via strikeout to end the game. Hooper also started and pitched four innings against UW-Stout on April 10. He struck out four and gave up five hits in the 21-6 victory.
The Warhawks (18-1, 6-0_ are in Platteville today for a doubleheader with the UWP Pioneers. Whitewater swept a twin bill at Platteville last Friday.
