Vodenlich: Game-Two win Friday huge

One WIAC doubleheader is now in the books with 11 more on the schedule over the next three weeks. With a conference of just seven teams, every conference game is crucially important for a team that plans on making a run at the WIAC championship.

UW-Whitewater's dramatic ninth-inning, come-from-behind win in game-two made opening day in the WIAC even more special.

"It was a huge win," Hawks coach John Vodenlich told Voice Eye on Baseball Blog following Friday's game-two victory. "It is really nice to know they (team) has confidence in themselves. They battled back, they had some good approaches and to know you can bring in (Ben) Versnick (closer) late and be relatively confident he is going to get the job done is is a feeling we haven't had for a long time."

The Warhawks have no time to celebrate Friday's sweep of Platteville. Due to the double postponement Wednesday and Thursday, Whitewater is faced with playing three doubleheaders in three days.

If it was equal across the board (throughout the WIAC) I'd feel really good about it," Vodenlich said. "Since it is just us and Platteville in this situation it will put some pressure on our pitching staff."

It will be the Warhawks and UW-Stout in doubleheader action both Saturday and Sunday. Action both days begins at 12-noon at James B. Miller Stadium. Plan on having a "Mill's" burger or brat for lunch at the park.
