Will their be offensive fireworks at Platteville Wednesday?

Weather permitting - the UW-Whitewater baseball team will open the WIAC portion of the 2010 schedule Wednesday afternoon (4/7) with a doubleheader at UW-Platteville.

The Warhawks and Pioneers currently dominate WIAC’s offensive statistics. A check of the official WIAC Website’s baseball statistics page puts the story into full focus.

Whitewater and Platteville lead the WIAC with .412 and .409 team batting averages respectively. The Pioneers lead the conference in scoring with 185 runs in 13 games. The Warhawks rank second by scoring 165 runs in 13 games.

The top five hitters in the conference are from either Platteville or Whitewater.

1st Aaron Hopson (UWP) .519
2nd Daniel Putname (UWW) .500
3rd Jeff Donovan (UWW) .479
4th Joe Nartowicz (UWP) .463
5th Mike Kenseth (UWW) .444

Individually, the story is even more intriguing.

In the breakdown of individual offensive statistical categories (hits, doubles, home runs, etc).36 players are listed. Of the 36 – 32 are either from Whitewater or Platteville!

I’ll look into a pitching comparison between UWW and UWP later today here on Voiceseyeonbaseball.blogsot.com.
