WIAC Notes and Quotes

Notes and Quotes

• UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville play six games vs. each other over the next 5 days

• Today’s (Friday’s) twice postponed UWW @ UWP doubleheader will match up the top two scoring teams in NCAA Division III this season

• I had indicated earlier this week that scoring would be down once the WIAC portion of the season started. Oops! To date the scores have been; UW-Stout 13, UW-La Crosse 12, UW-La Crosse 20, UW-Stout 9 (8 innings), UW-Oshkosh 13, UW-Stevens Point 10, UW-Stevens Point 11, UW-Oshkosh 1 (suspended game in 4th inning)

• UW-Stout has made a number of changes under new head coach Seth Maier. As the team journeyed to Florida for 8 games last month only one player was playing the same position as last year. “We definitely have a new look,” Maier told UW-Stout student newspaper Stoutonia. We have a new look, with new energy and a new atomosphere. The players have worked hard learning new positions. With the new positions will come growing pains.”

• Stout travels to Whitewater for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The start time both days will be 12-Noon.

• UWSP head coach Pat Bloom (quoted in UWSP Student newspaper the Pointer - “Anytime you’re playing good baseball you have to get good pitching and defense, that’s where everything starts for us, that’s what we hang our hat on,” Bloom said. “Whether our bats are hot or cold, we can be in any ballgame with pitching and defense. We need to improve on our offensive consistency and our physical and mental conditioning so we are ready to play 18 strong innings in these important conference doubleheaders.”

• Stevens Point is currently in 3rd place in the WIAC and will host UW-Platteville for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend.
