Outstanding news coming out of La Crosse this morning

(Editor's Note: The following story includes quotes from Joel Badzinski's La Crosse Tribune story on UW-La Crosse baseball)

I have blogged a couple of times this spring on the unfortunate situation the UW-La Crosse baseball program had been placed in by UW-L administration.

On June 5, 2009, UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow announced his decision to cut baseball and men's tennis. The news, delivered via mass e-mail, came as a shock to coaches and athletes from both programs. To satisfy UW system requirements five-year funding had to be secured by May 1st. On March 1st, the fundraising drive was still $100 thousand short of it's mandated goal of $175 thousand.

Late Easter Sunday (4/4/10) Gow sent an e-mail to UW-L students and faculty making the announcement that a two anonymous donors pledged funds totalling $100 thousand that will keep the school’s baseball program going through the 2015 season.

Joel Badzinski of the La Crosse Tribune is No. 1 in the WIAC media corps of writing on UW-L and WIAC athletics.

Badzinski writes in this morning's La Crosse Tribune story that the donors want the attention focused on Eagle baseball rather than themselves and has requested an. the couple has requested anonymity.
