Stine more comfortable back in the lead-off spot
Jordan Stine is back and better than ever after missing all of the 2009 season with a severe shoulder injury. The senior from Merrill admits he has “pressed” some in coming back from last year's injuries.
Following the Hawks doubleheader sweep at Platteville Friday Stine tells Voiceseyeonbaseball.blogspot.com that he was finally beginning to zone in at the plate. That feeling proved prophetic.
In game-one of Saturday’s doubleheader vs. Stout in Whitewater Stine put together a nearly perfect day at the plate. 5 for 5 with 5 RBI and 5 runs scored. He also stole his 5th base of the season.
Jordan went 7-for-8 on the day with eight runs scored and five RBIs as both games were shortened to seven innings because of the ten-run differential rule.
The Hawks dabbled with having Jordan anywhere from No. 3 to No. 5 in the batting order during the non-conference portion of the schedule. With the WIAC portion of the season underway, Stine is back in a “more comfortable” lead-off spot.
“I had a better approach today,” Stine said following Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Stout. “I seem to be more focused in the lead-off spot, more focused at getting on base and let the big bats go to work behind me.”
Jordan has simply been outstanding since first stepping onto the UW-Whitewater campus. The senior centerfielder from Merrill has been named a 1st Team All-WIAC selection in each of his first three years in the Warhawk baseball program
Stine will enter Sunday’s doubleheader with Stout batting a robust .391 with 22 runs batted in.
