
The UW-Whitewater baseball team pounded out 35 hits in sweeping a pair from Marion Univesity (Fond du Lac), 19-7 and 13-3 (8 innings). The Warhawks got out to a 7-0 lead after four innings in the first game. Riley Tincher picked up his fifth win of the season going 6 innings. He was relieved by Kyle Lee and Ben Versnik who threw three shutout innings striking out six batters.
The Hawks had plenty of stars offensively led by Daniel Putnam (4x5, 5 RBI) and Ben Kuhlmann (5x6, 4 RBI) had a double and triple. Mike Kenseth went 3x4 and Kevin Barth had a grand slam home run.
Aaron Leitner earned the win for the 'Hawks in game-two by going five innings and giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one. Leitner improves to 3-1 this season.
Aaron Leitner picked up the win in game two. He was relieved by Jason Hooper who had 5 Ks in 2.2 innings and Andrew Bauer got the final out.
The score was tied 3-3 after 4 innings before the WARHAWKS plated 5 runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. The game ended with back to back to back home runs from Kenseth, Matt Beyer and Putnam. Kenseth was a perfect 4x4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs. Beyer (4 RBI) and Putnam (2 RBI) both went 3X5. Jeff Donovan had a pair of hits and 2 RBIs in three at bats.
With the doubleheaader sweep, UW-Whitewater is now 12 & 1 on the season. The Hawks are off until next Wednesday when John Vodenlich's team travels to UW-Platteville to open the WIAC with a doubleheader vs. the Pioneers.
Marian falls to 2 & 10 following today's action.
