The UW-Whitewater baseball team has been “scary hot” offensively on the way to a 12-1 record heading into the WIAC portion of the schedule. Picking an offensive MVP following Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of Marian University was not easy for me.
While a number of Hawks put up numbers worthy of game MVP honors, my choice is Daniel Putnam. a junior transfer who is a transfer from Division I University of Central Arkansas.
How good was Danny’s day at the plate?
He hit for the cycle plus a walk in the Hawks 19-7 game one win going 4 for 5 with 5 RBI.
Game 2 was not much different with Putnam going 3 for 5 with a double, two more RBI and the final of a back-to back-to back home run barrage (Kenseth, Beyer and Putname) to end the nightcap via the 10-run rule, 13-3. .
So far there has not been a lot of pressure at the plate for me,” Putnam tells the Voices Eye on Baseball Blog. “I’ve got eight guys behind me that are hitting the ball amazing.”
Putnam entered Thursday’s doubleheader leading the WIAC in hits, doubles, total bases, runs and stolen bases.
He’ll enter the WIAC portion of the season hitting .500 with a robust .971 slugging percentage.
The Warhawks’ team batting average is currently .412 which is among the top-five batting averages in NCAA Division III according to the latest national statistics report.
