UW-Platteville’s offensive explosion this weekend brings back memories of the Warhawks five consecutive home run game back in 2008 vs. archrival UW-Oshkosh.
It was a key WIAC doubleheader on April 5, 2008 at Prucha Field. For the record, the Warhawks swept the key doubleheader, 9-7 & 11-3, against the Titans on the way to a sixth consecutive WIAC regular season championship.
It was the way they beat Oshkosh in game-one that will be forever remembered by Warhawk baseball fans.
Whitewater entered the bottom of the 5th inning after having given up five runs in the top of the inning to give the Titans a 5-1 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, the Warhawks struck right back with five homers in a row The home run barrage was started by sophomore Ben Kuhlmann, followed by sophomore Jeff Donovan,. Next up ., Jordan Stine, senior Thomas Corcoran, a right-fielder from Rochester, Minn., ending with a fifth consecutive “round tripper by Kevin Zalnis. Earlier in the game Stein got his first “dinger” of the day giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning.

The back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back homers are still a school and a conference rrecord for consecutive home runs in an inning. The school record for most home runs in an inning is six against Carroll College on April 15, 1997. The school record for home runs in a game is 10 against UW-Stevens Point on April 28, 1995.
